Technical Glossary
The Structured Laser Beam is a new paradigm in the creation of pseudo-non-diffractive optical beam. Its optical intensity profile in the transverse plane is similar to that of a Bessel beam. The SLB has a narrow central spot of high intensity surrounded by concentric circles.
The SLB has been developed in a collaboration between the ESA section and IPP (Institute of Plasma Physics - CZ). One of the interesting properties of the SLB is its ability to propagate over very long distances with a low divergence of the central beam, typically 0.01mrad. This opens potential applications in different domains, one of them being large scale metrology and alignment.
This meeting is taking place on a weekly basis and gathers the group leader, section leaders, the GAO(s) and sometimes external stakeholders.
Survey Database containing all the raw measurements related to the complex of accelerators at CERN, as well as the nominal positions of their components in the general CERN Coordinate System (CCS), and the measured spatial offsets (radial, vertical, longitudinal) of these components with respect to the nominal positions. Central Database for the surveyors, that is currently accessed by other teams at CERN.
A total station is an optical instrument commonly used in construction, surveying and civil engineering. It is useful for measuring horizontal angles, vertical angles and distance — it does this by analyzing the slope between itself and a specific point.
The TSO is appointed by the Safety Office to fulfill obligations in matters of safety for buildings and premises under his/her responsibility.
Internal Software to help surveyor with the measurement acquisitions.
This is one of the main software used to pilot survey instruments such as laser trackers and total stations, for data acquisition and survey in-field works i.e position measurement or adjustments.
Radial measurement system for HL-LHC providing the distance between the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) wire and the tunnel wire.
Work package analysis meeting to review the associated risks before starting the activity.
Period of stop of the machines for a few weeks, having the aim to make an upgrade of the same.
Zoller + Fröhlich is a brand that constructs laser scanners. The Z+F IMAGER® 5016 is our most recent laser scanner.
