Technical Glossary
ALICE is one of the physics experiments at the LHC at CERN. The main goal of the ALICE collaboration is to characterize the physical properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP), a state of matter created under the extreme conditions of temperature and energy density created in nuclear collisions.
The ESA section is in charge of all survey and alignment for preparatory works during the design, prototyping, tests, assembly, positioning from early stage of the project and during the experiment life.
The section is responsible for the geodetic and large-scale metrology measurements as well as the alignment of the accelerator components and their associated beam transfer lines for the whole CERN site. Furthermore, the ASG section is in charge of the acquisition and processing of high accuracy point cloud data defined in the primary CERN reference frame (CCS). The ASG section is also driving the Research and Development to improve alignment techniques and methods to achieve the requirements of future project.

ATLAS is a general-purpose particle physics experiment at the LHC at CERN.
The ESA section is in charge of all survey and alignment for preparatory works during the design, prototyping, tests, assembly, positioning from early stage of the project and during the experiment life.
The weekly meeting of the department head and the group leaders discusses issues at departmental level and informs about the groups’ status and ongoing projects.
The purpose of CDD is not only to keep an electronic print of the graphic design itself, but also to keep a reference with the key information associated with the design.
Includes the different Neutrino research projects of CERN i.e. the Experiments NP02 and NP04 in the extension of the EHN1 hall.
Least square based estimation of Helmert's transformation parameters (3 translations, 3 rotations, 1 scale) between two spatial clouds of points having common points. Common software for specifically evaluating 3D transformation parameters between sets of spatial points.
The Compact Muon Solenoid detector sits at one of these four collision points of the LHC. It is a general-purpose detector; designed to observe any new physics phenomena that the LHC might reveal.
The ESA section is in charge of all survey and alignment for preparatory works during the design, prototyping, tests, assembly, positioning from early stage of the project and during the experiment life.
The DAO works at the BE Central Secretariat and oversees information linked to arrivals and departures in the department, organizes the BE onboarding events, deals with contract formalities (extensions, terminations), and provides to the GAOs advice and guidance on the application of procedures.
A network storage service offered by Microsoft that is currently used by CERN to store part of its data.
The DPO prepares and follows-up the execution of the departmental budget, plans and monitor activities with a transversal perspective allowing the department to proactively adjusts its priorities, strategies and actions.
The DSO is appointed by the Safety Office to fulfill obligations in matters of safety at the department level.
The DTO provides information and assistance to the members of personnel of the department on administrative procedures concerning internal and external trainings.
